Home built late 80's early 90's by Rick Edwards - 1948 Ford Pickup -

SBC engine, Richmond 5 speed manual transmission, Ford 9 inch posi rear.  Been driving over 20 years to shows, as far north as Canada, and as far west as Oklahoma City.  It has been great fun and very reliable.  I have put almost 80,000 mile on it.

    This is a picture of my 1987 Mercedes SL560. I've owned the car for about 2 years, I purchased the car as is. The car has a 5.6 liter motor about 250hp it is a convertiable that also came with a hardtop. It is also equipped with auto trans., power windows and leather interior.

John Zachary 2010 Chevy Camaro

Hello My Name is John Zachary, I am new member to 7 Valley Street Rods. My car is a 2010 Chevy Camaro. I bought this car last year and have enjoyed driving it ever since. 20 years ago I drove a 1976 Monte Carlo, But raising kids and life got in the way of keeping it. Now that our children are grown up we thought it was time to buy another car that we would enjoy driving. Last summer We went to a lot of car shows, and drag races. Me and my son raced this car 5-6 times at Skyview and ESTA. We can't wait until spring come so we can get back to the strip.

Memories of a 57 Ford

The first car I ever drove (on the road legally) was my parents 57 Ford Custom 300. I did some customizing, four barrel carb, fender skirts, dual hollywood mufflers, decal pinstripes, and floor shifter. Later I purchased a 57 Ford Convertible of my own but the Custom was always my favorite. Had been looking for another 57 Custom for some time and this one came up on e-bay so we went to Delaware to take a look and drove her home. This car is exactly like the one I used to drive only the first one was all black. The car has had an older restoration and has a 272 y-block engine. We have had a lot of fun driving it around.

Muscle car for a girl: phase 1

 

In May 2013, my husband Ken (another 7 Valley Street Rod member), gifted me with a Wedding Anniversary present of a life time:            A 1967Chevrolet Camaro.

  Marina Blue with Blue Bucket seat standard interior.

 It was born in the 4th week of December 1966 with a 250ci straight six engine rated  at 171hp, a 2 speed power glide with a steering column shift, standard bucket seats in medium blue, and a rear antennae.  This car is a very low optioned vehicle. J


This car has a good history and is in remarkable shape for its 48 years spent in Central New York weather. It is still 98% complete and runs and drives.  It has only been owned by women: The original owner, my friend, who bought it from the original owner in 2012, and I. The car still has it’s Protect-o-plate from the dealership and the original drivetrain.


Ken was able to drive it home with no issue.  It now resides in our garage next to his 1966 Chevelle SS that he has been doing a complete rotisserie restoration.


Doing an analysis on the car has yielded some sad facts.


The 2 speed power glide will not shift into second gear and the right rear shock mount is bad. The engine will start and run but is tired. All the weather proofing seals are bad, the windshield leaks and the driver’s door window felt is a mess. Rust is starting to rear its ugly head on the floor pan and front fenders.  Some chrome is missing on the drip rails and the rocker molding is gone altogether.  The engine compartment needs a thorough degreasing and overhaul.  The dash is cracked, some of the seams are coming apart on the seats and the door panels are peeling.  Most of the bright work is in good condition.

  A so-so paint job, most likely happen 15 to 20 years ago in a different shade of blue that I do not care for, as well as new rear ¾ rear quarters with detectable seams in the trunk and a new gas tank install that damaged the trunk pan ( bolts through the pan).  The rear bumper needs to be replaced and the interior is not the best, but usable.


 After a review of the overall condition of the car, the decision was made to turn this car into a Resto-mod:  A new engine, a manual transmission, performance and safety driven suspension upgrades, a new paint scheme, and a new interior.  The goal of this car will have the feel of a 1967 Camaro with 1969 upgrades that will be fun to drive when you put the hammer down but still civilized enough to actually drive to shows.   The original drive train will be stored.

 A 2” cowl induction hood was purchased and installed. A used black console and black steering column for a floor shift was obtained thru friends and swap meets.  Used bumpers for plating cores were bought for $20.

 In the summer of 2014, we were able to buy the manual transmission: Muncie M21 4 speed with linkages.

 


A 1962 small journal 327 factory rated 300hp engine will be the new heart for this car.


The owner of the engine, a close friend,  had been making plans to rebuild it into a powerhouse for his 1967 Malibu that was leaving his horsepower demon feeling deprived.  He made several nice purchases for the new engine:  An Edelbrock Rolling Thunder hydraulic roller cam #2201, and Edelbrock Performer RPM intake #7101, a new Forged 4340 crank and new bearings. The engine was torn down, greased and boxed with all the brackets and accessories.  The owner sold the car before rebuilding engine. So he no longer needed it.    We were able to buy the motor and parts for great price of $600. 


  I then spent hours on the internet researching parts and I became a member of the Hotrodders.com.  This website and forum has become an invaluable source of information for me.  I cannot stress how much they helped me in selecting the parts for my rebuild.  They walked me through every component selection of my engine.   Many of these members and moderators are professional hot rod builders with decades of experience.   They are mighty wise!

The block will be planed to 9.0 deck height and bored .030 over.  This engine is expected to produce 430+ HP, with the power band 1500-6500 rpms with a 700 cfm carburetor and 1-5/8 full length tubes headers by Hedman Headers Elite.  

 I bought a matched set of Sealed Power Hypereutetic aluminum flat tops with two relief valves pistons .030 over; H660CP30 from the internet for a thrifty price of $165. They are rated at 9.51 compression ratio with 64cc chambered heads.

 A pair of Pro-filer aluminum heads as cast was purchased directly from Pro-filer for $1090, as ordered:

 SBC 23 Degree Cylinder Head, 11/32 Guides & Steel Seats, Intake Port Size: 180cc, Intake Ports, Chamber Size: 64cc As Cast Chamber, Spark Plug Orientation: Straight Plug, Intake Valves: 2.02/1.600 Valve Job, Spring Package: Standard .650 Lift 1.525 Dual Springs, Steel Retainers, Keepers Assembled, Casting Style: Standard Cooling.  These heads flow approximately 300cfm and are taking the racing world by storm for their performance vs price.

 A set of Scat connecting rods, Forged 4340 I-beam rods from Northern Auto parts, # 2570020P:  Chevy SB 5.700" Pressed, 2.000" PIN, ARP 8740 Bolts.

Retrofit Howard hydraulic lifters 91164N, with link bar for older engines. $334.

I also bought a very nice set of aluminum tall valve covers from Billet specialties.  The script is machined in, not raised.  I am still looking for breathers that I like.

 

While I have already accumulated a lot of parts, I still have a long way to go before I have a running engine for this car.  Money and time….  J

My love of Classic Cars started when I was a kid growing up on the farm.  I would see them running up and down the road and thought that I would own one someday.  Then one day I was out looking for another job because working on the family farm was not for me. I lucked out getting a job working at FML Industries.  I worked hard and moved up in the Company.  Then one day Mike, the owner, came in with pictures of his 1956 Golden Hawk he was going to be restoring. After a while Mike started to acquire more cars.  I loved going up to help move them around.  Then tragedy struck, Mike became ill and passed away.  It was not easy thinking of the cars he loved working on just sitting there. I would always drive up and check on the cars.  Then one day I was checking on them and thought that it would be great idea to get one out and get it running.  So I approached Mike's wife, Donna about purchasing one of them.  It was a 1949 Jeep Willys Delivery Sudan that she agreed to sell me.  I got it running and so begins my childhood dream of owning a Classic. I had the Willys for about three years.  I was still going up and keeping an eye on the cars for Donna.  One in particular I had my eye on was the 1956 Dodge Coronet which I acquired in 2013. I also joined the 7 Valley Street Rods that same year.

b2ap3_thumbnail_100_0450.JPG Mary and my cars are kind of a rekindled interest in cars of the era that we were brought up in. Our first project is, and I say "is" because they are "always" a project, a 48 fat fender chevy  that we purchased with a newer paint job and interior. We drove it for a year as it was but it would not do the job "I" wanted it to do so I spent some money. That's where the inheritance money part comes in. I first put in a Mustang Kit front end and a 3:31 Chevelle rear end. Then with the help of a good friend I  rebuilt a SBC 400 and had a 700R4 rebuilt to go with the combination. I bought a American Auto Wire harness and replaced the tail lights with LED'S. Along the way I picked up a sunvisor that I revamped to fit the  car and made some, what I call, eyebrows for the  head lights. That took some of the ugliness out of the exterior I hope. But the way it was matched my profile. As for the 78 corvette, it was purchased about five years ago and we have enjoyed driving it the way it is. It was my wife's choice and I kid her about it but the previous owner maintained it very well and we think it was a good buy.

 Some of the trips we have taken include Macungie, Pa. for a car show, Bennington, Vt. at Hemmings Motor News  several times for their Thursday night Cruse-in and trips to Mass., Vt. and NH. for Car Shows and road trips .We both laugh about our childrens inheriatince , our money pit and reliving our childhood but DON'T TAKE OUR CARS away from us!!!

Since I grew up in the 50's, James Dean was my mentor and I always said I was going to own a Roadster like his.  Well, raising a family and having a career that took me on the road, that never happened.  So, I told my wife when I retire I am going to own a Street Rod.  I ran across this '34 coupe in New Jersey that was for sale due to the gentleman having a stroke and had to sell it.  I took a rental truck and car trailer to New Jersey and brought it home to finish.

I decided to make this a "theme" car, thus the reason for it being a Fire Chief's Car.  I have been a volunteer firefighter since I was 18 years old and spent most all of my working career in the Fire Apparatus industry. Though I was never Fire Chief in the fire department, I am a past president and now a life member, as well as President of the Homer Fire Department Life Member's Club.

With Mustang II IFS and Triangulated 4-Bar Rear Suspension with Coil Springs and Shocks, this car rides real well and handles even better.  In fact, I had the chance to tag along with the Cortland All Ford Mustang Club to Watkins Glen International Speedway for a special event, which consisted of three laps on the road course and lunch in the Clubhouse. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this car handled on the track, especially in the turns. Real fun to drive.

BODY

 

The all steel body,(except for a fiberglass grill shell) is basically stock.  Modifications are: front fenders, splash aprons and running boards are molded together, door handles removed, windshield laid back three degrees, rolled rear pan, gas door and license plate frenched in rear panel, 39 Ford tail lights sunk in fenders.  The top was covered with black Mercedes cloth in the Vicky’s leather back style (done by Scott at Ace trim.)  Owner designed and made 14 gallon aluminum gas tank is installed behind the rear seat.

 

CHASSIS

 

The chassis is a TCI two by four frame with a Model A front cross member and a three inch Z’d rear cross member.  The front end is a traditional five inch dropped chrome super bell axle mounted on a chrome super slide spring, with a adjustable “dead” and regular spring perches.  Stainless four bars keep everything aligned.  Early GM 11” disk

Brakes are mounted on original Ford spindles.  The rear is an early chromed Jaq with 3.31 gears, Wilwood disk brakes and Alden aluminum coil-overs.

 

ENGINE / TRANSMISSION

 

A “67”   283  was bored .030 over and fitted with Keith Black hypereutectic domed pistons, a mild Clevite cam, 164cc heads yielding 9.5:1 compression ratio. (Machine work done by Joe Spisak at precision auto).  3 deuces on a Weiand manifold provide good looks and plenty of fuel and air flow.  Mallory electronic ignition fire it.  The “69” 350 turbo transmission was rebuilt utilizing a shift kit and a builder made high stall speed converter.  (Work done by Smitty”s transmission in Homer.)  A superior aluminum radiator supplies the cooling.  

 

INTERIOR

 

Interior is very basic to say the least.  The seats are Ford escort, the gauges are Haneline,  mounted in the original dash, as is a custom auto sound AM FM C/D controller.

The overhead console serves as a glove box, and speaker mount.  Other features are;  “82” Monte Carlo tilt steering column with a Cavalier  ½ leather wrap wheel, a Hurst shifter.  A  Kwik Wire fuse panel is mounted behind the rear seat and the harness runs under a console / tunnel the length of the car to the dash.  Future plans call for everything to be covered in a mix of leather and cloth.

This is my brother Dick & mine { Dave } Stoker's 1940 Ford Standard Business Coupe  we have owned it since 1984 and put it on the road in 1990 . It has a 355 cu. inch small block Chevy Racing Head Service block , Comp Cam , roller rockers , Dart Heads , Edelbrock intake with 600 cfm Holley carb . Mallory Unilte distributor , Air conditioned , disc brakes front & rear , TCI transmission with Street Fighter torq convertor , Nova rear . Painted Black with House of Kolor Flames . We finished the car just in time for the NSRA Street Rod National show in Oklahoma City and left with about 200 shake down miles on it . We have driven the car to several National shows over the years including Louisville , Columbus Ohio , Burlington Vt. and Syracuse NY . We are 2 of the original founders of 7 Valley Street Rods and have devoted most of our lives in the automotive hobby .

This is my brother Dick's & mine { Dave } Stoker's 1940 Ford P/U we have owned since 1976 and we put it on the road in 1980 , it has a 5 inch chopped top with Wescott fiberglass fenders . It has a Jasper Racing prepared 355 cu. inch small block Chevy with Dart Heads , Crane Cam, roller rockers , Mallory Unilite distributor , Dyer's V6-71 blower with 2 625 cfm Carters carbs set up by Dyer's , S&S Headers , a Manual Shift TCI transmission with Street Fighter  torque convertor , disc brake front , drum rear with a Nova rear axle 2:56 gears for travel . The truck also has sway bars front and rear and really holds the road .

We are 2 of the original founding members of 7 Valley Street Rods .

Back in the 80's the local band The Rods used the Sedan in their video Hurricane .

I have driven my '58 Chevy Apache Fleetside all over the US.  This was taken after the 2010 Power Tour that ended in Mobile, Alabama.  I decided to turn West, and just kept going.  I am running a 5.3 vortec  4L60e, Currie Ford 3.25 rear, MII front end.  And with power seats from a '04 Chevy Silverado.  Comfortable, lots of room in the back, 27 mpg on highways; flex fuel; bullet-proof for the long haul.  A true 7-year home build.  Chopped - very slight - to get rid of the "bobble-head" these trucks sport.  From behind a barn near Gettysburg, S.D.

Cool Car Guys

Hello Everyone, I think this sites going to be a great place for the club as a whole. I think this will help the next generation of car lovers relate to the club and all of its history. The more we put into this site the better it will be. A month ago I stared a blog called Cool Car Guys. It is a blog about guys (girls) and their love for the automobile. I was wondering if any of the members would like to do an interview with me and talk about their cars. I would like to find out how everybody has become a car guy and what makes them continue their love for cars as they get older. Im sure you guys have some great stories from both the past and present about the cars that you have owned, to the projects that are in your garage as well speak.  I just thought that I would put this out there for you guys to think about. Let me know, we can set up a interview and maybe I could come and shoot some pics of a project that you will be working on over the winter.
